Bio
Dance musician, pianist and composer, Paz lives dedicated to musical creation and artistic direction.
Trained at the Royal Conservatory Victoria Eugenia of Granada, she holds a PhD cum laude from the University of Granada in History and Science of Music with her thesis entitled El piano para la danza: Josu Gallastegui 1941. As a piano teacher and graduate in Pedagogy, Paz continues her training all these years, both with great dance teachers such as Josu Gallastegui himself, and with jazz pianists such as Otmaro Ruiz or Mark Shilansky, with whom she has taken classes at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Valencia, or in musical creation with the composer Pedro Osuna.
Her specialization in contemporary and classical dance has led her to work mainly at the Conservatorio Profesional "Reina Sofía" in Granada. Since 2008 and until today she collaborates as a pianist in the Cursos Manuel de Falla, playing in workshops and master classes with great dancers and teachers such as José Carlos Martínez, Ángel Corella, Igor Yebra, Tamara Rojo, Taina Morales, Bryan Maloney, Karemia Moreno, Pino Alosa, Joaquín de Luz, Eva López Crevillén, Altea Núñez, and Antonio Najarro among many others.
In 2008 she made her debut as a composer of music for dance with the choreographer María Rovira, with the piece De tú a tú, premiered as part of the extension of the International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada (FEX). In 2009 she repeated the experience and premiered the pieces Traslados and Almaa within the same framework, also with Rovira. The same year he collaborated with the choreographer Bebeto Cidra as arranger of the piece Rugged Lines premiered at the Teatro Monumental de Mataró. As a result of these two years of meetings and creativity, the company Maiko Danza was born, of which he is a member, providing the artistic direction and musical composition. The first piece of the company, Silent Bird, recieved the Special Mention of the Jury in the II National Choreographic Contest of 2009. In 2011 they create Christina's world, and in 2019 Sin ser soy, premiered at the José Guerrero Museum in Granada, piece with which the company says goodbye.
Other works include collaborations with children's theater companies such as La Sal, Baran Puppet or the research project of the University of Fine Arts of Granada in collaboration with the Professional Dance Conservatory Litium Lab, premiered at FEX in 2010. She holds the 2007 José López Rubio Award for Best Short Film Script granted by the University of Granada for Un día cualquiera and the Best Original Soundtrack Award at the 48 hrs Film Festival in 2012 and 2013 for Gitamorfosis and Desnuditos.
As artistic director she directs four projects in collaboration with the Museo de Bellas Artes de Granada and the Conservatorio Reina Sofía. Under the title Ballet de año nuevo, she creates for both institutions, four audiovisual dance productions that premiere with great success between 2021 and 2024.
Currently and since 2009, she has been performing as a pianist on stage with the double world champion of magic Mago Migue, in his Concierto para baraja y piano, a show that has toured China, Canada, USA and has been selected for the Spanish pavilion at the Dubai Expo in 2022.
In 2024 she premiers the piece Petricor, together with Carina Martín and founds the Sin + Collective, with which she will premiere next winter a tribute production to Shostakovich in collaboration with the Academic Orchestra of Granada.
